About Michael

I have been an educator since 1989. Most recently, I taught English at UCLA Extension for 12 years, where I learned how to get college-bound students to optimize their writing and communication skills.

I have frequently collaborated with my longtime friend, Christopher Hunt, who has a highly successful essay consulting business called College Essay Mentor. Chris taught me a lot about editing and crafting personal statements, and from his expertise, I came to understand the most effective way to write an essay that appeals to university admissions officers.

I was born in New York City and attended the Town School in Manhattan. After moving to Los Angeles at the age of 11, I went to the Mirman School and then to Harvard/Westlake High School. I graduated from UCLA cum laude and went on to get a master’s degree from the University of Southern California.

My home is in Los Angeles, and my two children come back from college to visit their dad from time to time.
